Yellow-bellied Sapsucker: Winter Visitor to Adams County, PA

Hello All!

Spring is nearly here but not quite yet for this Yellow-bellied Sapsucker who calls Adams County, Pennsylvania, his winter home. According to the Pennsylvania Society of Ornithology, this sapsucker winters in a large chuck of the state (southeast), summers in the northern half of the state, and lives year-round in most of southwest quadrant. So, to see one, you need only be in the right place at the right time.

And I was only moments ago!

Looking out my bedroom window, I saw a woodpecker (typical sight around here, especially for red-bellied and downy woodpeckers). But even a quick glimpse told me this was someone new. A sapsucker?  I haven't seen one for years, and so flew down the steps to my living room to grab a camera and catch this image from inside the living room.

This female sapsucker just made my day!

Until next time . . . Keep birds in your heart.
