My Big Dinner Party . . . or . . . A Whole Lot of Birds

I took this image with a smart phone through the glass of my kitchen window. Should I mention the glass wasn't exactly clean?  That's okay. The idea here isn't to identify the birds (but I will provide a list) as much as to count them. February is the month of the Backyard Bird Count (February 12), which I'm embarrassed to say I missed! How ironic given I spend so much time and money feeding lots and lots of backyard birds! In fact, this image is not half of the birds to be found at any given "feeding."

When hosting these dinner parties, I'm always sure to serve my guests their favorite food: black-oil sunflower seeds. In this particular moment, not all the guests are in view. For instance, the red-bellied woodpecker is always one of the first to arrive though she isn't in this photo. Because the image is so poor, it's hard to distinguish who actually is dining with me here, but from what I can tell, they include

Northern Cardinals

Dark-eyed Juncos

White Throated-Sparrows

Several Common Grackles, though don't be fooled. The grackles always come  with lots of friends and family.

A couple of Blue Jays

and I'll add some Tufted Titmice since I saw them before taking the photo though I can't make them out within this portrait.

Oh--I forgot to count them! Well, it might be too late for the Backyard Bird Count but I guess I could enter a list in eBird.

Till next time . . .

Enjoy feeding your backyard birds. They're always appreciative.
